Any calendar, by its iCal address
If a calendar can be shared as an iCal, ICS or webcal address, Cutline can show it in your week: school and university timetables, shift rotas, booking tools, sports fixtures and holiday calendars. Your own Cutline week is also a private .ics feed that any calendar app can subscribe to.
What an iCal address is
iCalendar (.ics) is the standard format calendars use to share events (RFC 5545). A calendar that offers a link ending in .ics, or starting with webcal://, is sharing itself in that format. Cutline reads it, including repeating events, exceptions and moved occurrences, in your time zone.
Where to find one
| Where | What it is called |
|---|---|
| Google Calendar | Secret address in iCal format |
| Outlook | Published calendar, ICS link |
| iCloud | Public calendar link (webcal://) |
| University timetables | Subscribe, iCal feed or calendar export |
| Booking and rota tools | Calendar feed, iCal sync or ICS link |
| Sports leagues and fixtures | Add to calendar, iCal |
Bring it in
Open Settings → Calendars → Any calendar, paste the address and press Bring it in. Cutline checks that it is a real calendar, then shows its events for the past three weeks and the next four months as read-only blocks, and keeps them in sync every 15 minutes. Up to 10 linked calendars.
Your Cutline week as an .ics feed
In the same place, Get my calendar address gives you a private https and webcal address for your Cutline blocks. Paste it into any calendar app that can subscribe to a calendar by URL.
Questions
Does Cutline understand repeating events?
Yes: daily, weekly, monthly and yearly repeats, with skipped dates and single occurrences that were moved, in the time zone the calendar was made in.
Can I import a .ics file instead of a link?
Cutline works with addresses, so it can keep the calendar up to date. Upload the file to a calendar app that gives you a link, or ask the source for its feed address.
Is my feed address private?
Yes. It is a long random address only you have. Anyone who has it can see your block titles, so share it only with calendars you own, and make a new one if it leaks.
