Cutline + Google Calendar
Link Google Calendar to Cutline and your Google meetings appear in your Cutline week as read-only blocks, so you plan focus time around them. Your Cutline blocks can go the other way too, as a calendar called Cutline inside Google Calendar. It takes about a minute and is free on every plan.
What you get
- Meetings in your Grid. Every event from the Google calendar you link shows in Cutline as a striped, read-only block with its time and title. You see the gaps you actually have before you plan.
- Your blocks in Google. Your Cutline week can show inside Google Calendar as its own calendar, so a colleague looking at your week (or you, on your phone) sees the deep work you planned.
- Nothing counts twice. Meetings from Google never earn XP and never break a cleared day. Only blocks you plan in Cutline and tick off count.
Bring Google Calendar into Cutline
- In Google Calendar on the web, open Settings (the gear), then click your calendar under Settings for my calendars.
- Scroll to Integrate calendar and copy the Secret address in iCal format.
- In Cutline, open Settings → Calendars → Google Calendar, paste the address and press Bring it in.
Your Google events for the past three weeks and the next four months appear in the Grid. Cutline checks for changes every 15 minutes, even when the app is closed.
The other way: your Cutline week in Google Calendar
In Cutline, open Settings → Calendars and press Add to Google Calendar. Google Calendar subscribes to a private address that holds your blocks, and adds them as a separate calendar called Cutline. You keep planning in Cutline; Google Calendar shows the result next to your meetings. Google refreshes subscribed calendars on its own schedule, anywhere from a few hours to about a day, so a block you move in Cutline can take a while to move in Google.
That address is private: anyone who has it can see the titles of your blocks. If it ever leaks, make a new one in the same place and the old one stops working.
Plan around meetings, not over them
Once your meetings are in the Grid, plan the week the way the time-blocking guide describes: protect a deep work block before the first meeting, batch small tasks into the gaps, and leave a buffer after long calls. Click any Google event in Cutline and Copy into my week to turn it into your own block, for example a client call you want to tick off and count.
Questions
Does Cutline change anything in my Google Calendar?
No. Cutline only reads the calendar you link. Your Cutline blocks appear in Google only if you subscribe to your Cutline calendar, and then as a separate calendar that you can hide or remove in Google.
Can I link more than one Google calendar?
Yes. Each Google calendar has its own secret address. Add each one in Settings → Calendars, up to 10 calendars in total.
Can I just sign in with Google instead?
Sign-in with Google is rolling out now: one click links the calendars of your Google account, no address to copy. Where it is not available yet, the secret address does the same job and takes about a minute.
Do Google events earn XP?
No. XP only comes from blocks you plan in Cutline and finish. Copy an event into your week if you want it to count.
